Greetings from the AAPOR Welcoming Committee!

04/08/2019

For those of you that don’t know us, we’re a subcommittee of Membership and Chapter Relations, and while we were formerly known as the Student & Early-Career Subcommittee, we’ve changed our name to better reflect all of the great new(er) AAPOR folks we help welcome into our membership and annual conference.  You can get to know us more here.

Are you already an established AAPORite and looking to help welcome our new(er) colleagues?  Consider serving as a docent, meal table host or just generally a friendly face at the conference.  If you’re interested in helping, email Justine Bulgar-Medina to learn more and sign up for specific  opportunities.

We’re really excited to welcome all of our conference attendees in a few weeks, and have been hard at work planning multiple events and opportunities for making the most out of the time at AAPOR’s annual conference.  To start, grab your passport (and visa if necessary) and get ready to head to Toronto by checking out our day-by-day guide, to give you a birds eye view of everything happening at conference.  If you’re looking for more details, including some key intel on your time in Toronto, see our full guide to the conference.  Still have questions?  Check out our FAQs where you can submit your own questions.

Still working on your travel plans, or thinking of getting a roommate to save on lodging costs?  Consider signing up for our roommate matching service where you will be connected with others like you (and then free to make your own arrangements together).

Knowing how important it is to meet new colleagues while at conference, we’ve been hard at work planning several formal and informal opportunities to do just that.  For starters, during all AAPOR meals we will have reserved tables just for our new(er) folks, so be on the lookout for the table signs and please join us! Additionally, each of these tables will be hosted by veteran AAPOR members who will be there to just enjoy a meal with you, and can of course answer any questions you may have.  Of course, the best way to meet folks is by volunteering at the conference. Whether you have 15 minutes or 2 hours, volunteering is a great way to learn more about AAPOR while having some fun. And don’t worry – absolutely NO knowledge or experience is required! Get all the info here.

There are loads more opportunities for involvement including meet-ups for academics (professors, researchers and students), speed networking (for job seekers), off-site meetups and all sorts of parties and outings happening as well.  Be sure to keep an eye on AAPORnet and your email for upcoming signups and announcements. And of course if you have questions or suggestions, please email the Chair of the AWC, Justine Bulgar-Medina.  We can’t wait to see you all soon!
