Chapter Spotlight: PANJAAPOR

02/07/2019

PANJAAPOR has continued to provide PA, NJ, and surrounding AAPORites opportunities for networking, continuing relationships, and learning about what’s new in public opinion research.

Our fall event featured Dr. Don Levy, Director of the Siena College Research Institute.  Dr. Levy spoke about Sienna College Research Institute’s work with the NYTimes Upshot and their collaborative effort to conduct live polls in key congressional districts in the lead up to the 2018 midterm election.

Dr. Levy’s talk, “Live Polling: New Approaches to Transparency in Pre-Election Polls,” discussed the logistical challenges of continuously completing large numbers of interviews in compressed time frames, under constant public scrutiny.  Because of the scale of the live polling effort, Dr. Levy and his team utilized a number of different data collection firms, highlighting many organizations within the AAPOR community.  Dr. Levy provided insights and anecdotes, pulling back the curtain even further on the already transparent live polling effort.

PANJAAPOR’s fall event, held at Princeton University, also gave members the opportunity to network and catch up.  Many exciting personal and professional milestones were discussed and new connections were made!

We look forward to hosting our next event in the spring, this time in the Philadelphia area.  The topic and speaker(s) have not yet been determined, but details will be published as soon as they are final.

Happy New Year to all, and if you would like to learn more about PANJAAPOR or our upcoming activities, please visit our website at panjaapor.org.
