Chapter Spotlight: NYAAPOR

10/14/2019

NYAAPOR has gotten off to a great start for the 2019-20 year!

In September, NYAAPOR conducted a “Writing Better Questionnaires” session with David Harris author of the Complete Guide to Writing Questionnaires. Registration for the session included a copy of his book.
NYAAPOR recently completed a membership survey and is already transforming the organization based on insights from the survey. Some of the changes we’ve made include:

All Inclusive Membership Option – Over half of survey respondents expressed an interest in a $199 annual membership fee that includes admission to all NYAAPOR events for the year. The option will be available as renewals for the coming year go out.

More Polling and Election Coverage – Members asked for more events focused on elections and Greg Holyk, Associate Program Chair, has put together a Pre-Primaries Polling panel on November 13. Greg also has a second and possible third election event in the works for the spring.

Social Listening –NYAAPOR members asked for an introduction to “social listening” (monitoring of online social channels for opinion trends and marketing insights). We quickly pulled together an event on this topic for October 29, at the Advertising Research Foundation. The Digital Analytics Association has agreed to cosponsor the event, providing another opportunity for our membership to network with professionals in complementary organizations.

More Free Events – Past NYAAPOR President, Professor Robert Shapiro, has put together a very special free event in conjunction with the annual Roper Center Mitofsky Dinner with a line-up of truly stellar scholars and subject matter experts on the topic of the 2020 Census. The event will be held on the afternoon of November 14, at the NYC Public Library.

Mindy Rhindress, our Student Liaison, is already busy planning this year’s student poster event and has been reaching out to various schools in the New York tri-state area for submissions. The NYAAPOR Council has approved increasing this year’s total award amount to $1,000 to further increase participation.

In addition, NYAAPOR has its annual holiday party scheduled for December 3, and a timely event on vaccinations and public policy is in the works for January 2020.
