Chapter Spotlight: NYAAPOR

10/16/2017

NYAPPOR’s mission is to inform and provide educational opportunities on evolving research methods and techniques to its membership and research community in general.   In addition, it is an excellent platform for our diverse research community to network and share learning. We had a great kickoff event this past month, and we are looking forward to an exciting program over the next year.

Our opening networking event in August attracted students and professionals from diverse fields.  These events are an excellent platform for our executive council to interact with the membership, and attract new members.

Our first programming event in September was a one day workshop on usability testing for surveys.  Presenters included Emily Geisen, Survey Methodologist, Usability and Cognitive Laboratory Manager, RTI International and Jen Romano Bergstrom, Experimental Psychologist; UX Research Lead at Facebook/Instagram.  Participants received 2017 book on “Usability Testing for Survey Research.”

Our November event features a presentation on Data Visualization by Dona Wong, author of The Wall Street Journal Guide to Information Graphics.  This session will provide valuable insights on data visualization to tell compelling stories.

NYAAPOR members can look forward to more exciting events in the near future. Our future events include panel discussion on use of evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence in research, workshop on text analysis for surveys and election panel for NYC mayor’s and NJ governor’s race.

In addition to serving our membership through highly relevant programming, our goal continues to retain and expand NYAAPOR membership base.  We continue to actively promote our programs on social media sites including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Feel free to join us there!
