Chapter Spotlight: DC-AAPOR

06/06/2016

The Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (DC-AAPOR) has experienced a fruitful spring and is looking forward to an eventful summer.

Membership Chair Ashley Amaya has grown DC-AAPOR to 423 members since this time last year. In April, some of these members participated in two events, the “Introduction to R Short Course” taught by Jill Dever and the “Spanish Survey Translation and Administration Workshop,” in which DC-area Spanish translation experts presented and discussed their work.

Program Chair Stephanie Eckman has also been busy organizing the Fifth Annual Conference Preview/Review co-sponsored by the Washington Statistical Society. To be held on July 18, the Preview/Review will bring together a sample of exemplary presentations taking place at this year’s national and international conferences. If you would like to submit a presentation or poster for consideration, please visit http://goo.gl/1HsuKy. Conference registration will open June 17.

These popular events have allowed Treasurer Patricia Goerman to balance the DC-AAPOR books with ease. In addition, DC-AAPOR fund reserves have made it possible to redesign the chapter’s website and defray the costs of future events such as the upcoming July Preview/Review.

Past President Morgan Earp and I have been busy writing a first draft of the DC-AAPOR Handbook. This document will detail position descriptions for DC-AAPOR council members and serve as a resource for important DC-AAPOR and AAPOR documents such as our articles of incorporation, bylaws, chapter affiliation agreement, and data-sharing policy agreement.

If you would like to join DC-AAPOR or learn more about upcoming DC-AAPOR events such as the Preview/Review, please visit our (yet un-redesigned) website at http://www.dc-aapor.org/.
