American Experiences Survey (AES) is a monthly nationally representative omnibus survey of 2,000 US adults that Consumer Reports (CR) uses to track key consumer behaviors, attitudes, and trends over time.

In March 2020, two months after its inception and shortly before COVID-19 shut down businesses and activities around the United States, CR  fielded its first COVID-19 section in the AES. Since then, it has closely tracked socio-demographic differences in general experiences around COVID-19, particularly financial impacts, changes in purchasing habits, and vaccination uptake.

Over that same time period, the AES has tracked timely consumer topics ranging from Americans’ experiences with errors on credit reports to reliance on broadband, trends in banking, concerns around tech monopolies and digital privacy, and movement toward more sustainable products.

Consumer Reports adheres to the AAPOR Code of Ethics, and our researchers are active participants in the professional survey research community.

Conducted in both Spanish and English and including an oversample for English-speaking Asians, the AES brings a broad range of American perspectives to bear. We invite you to learn more about the American Experiences Survey, including topline results, and our research team at  https://www.consumerreports.org/research-survey/survey.
