Our Financial Health

11/18/2022

AAPOR Executive Council just wrapped up its September meeting. The September meeting is largely dedicated to a full financial review of the Association, and as it has been for a few years now, AAPOR is in excellent financial health. Every year I have been on Council, the budget has projected a small deficit, largely because we are unwilling to be too optimistic regarding our annual revenue that will occur in the upcoming year. We are patently conservative, which gets rewarded when we are pleasantly surprised to end up in the black at the end of the year. We expect this year to be no exception. The September meeting was also notable as we made a number of commitments to our goal to advocate more for our industry, that is, both the science of good survey practice as well as the role of public opinion in democracy. Much more will be revealed as we develop this further but for now, significant steps have been taken to improve journalists’ understanding of polling and to begin a curriculum of the civics of polling to assist educators interested in teaching about the role of polls in democracy. Again, stay tuned, we are excited at these initial steps and will present more at this year’s conference.
