Standards Committee Update

07/01/2020

The Standards Committee will be busy this summer working on a revised conduct policy and a revised code of professional ethics and practices.

The conduct policy outlines expectations, reporting, and procedures for everyone, members and non-members, who attends or participates in AAPOR events, activities, or operations. Since the AAPOR by-laws specifically refers to the conduct policy, the AAPOR Executive Council decided that AAPOR members should have an opportunity to review and comment on the policy followed by a vote to approve. The comment period for reviewing the conduct policy is currently under way ending on July 6. Based on the comments the Standards Committee will revise the policy and get the Executive Council’s approval for sending a final version out to membership for a vote during the summer.

The AAPOR code of professional ethics and practices is reviewed every five years and so last year the Standard Committee tasked an Ad-hoc committee to review the AAPOR code of ethics. The Executive Council has received the comments and suggestions from this committee and is currently working with the Standard Committee to produce a revised document for AAPOR members to review. The goal is to have a version out to membership for review by the end of the summer with a vote on the final version taking place sometime in the Fall of 2020.
