USDOL’s O*NET program is updating the classification of Survey Researchers

11/18/2022

AAPOR has been asked to assist with the current update of Survey Researchers for a project of the U.S. Department of Labor called O*NET or the Occupational Information Network. Some of our most experienced members will be invited by O*NET liaisons at RTI International to complete a series of questionnaires that gather information on how the work is performed, the knowledge required and the typical work settings. The aggregate input will be used to keep the summary of this work accurate and up-to-date at the O*NET Database (www.onetonline.org ). O*NET is America’s primary source of occupational information and  used by millions of students, job seekers, veterans and employers each year for career exploration and writing job descriptions for hiring and training. O*NET is provided by the DOL’s Employment and Training Administration and has been continuously updated since 2001.

Some of you may have assisted with the O*NET questionnaires in 2009 during the last update of Survey Researchers. Thank you for your help! The results from that update are available at the following link: http://www.onetonline.org/link/details/19-3022.00  For very specialized occupations, like Survey Researchers, O*NET relies on professional associations to identify occupation experts to provide input about their work to ensure the best and most current information about the profession is obtained.

If you are contacted by the O*NET program we hope you will consider completing the questionnaires to ensure the occupation is accurately described at the O*NET Database. If you have questions about using O*NET as a resource or about the data collection project at RTI International, please call or email Traci Davis at tdavis@onet.rti.org or 877-233-7348 ext. 109.
