Summer Doldrums

11/18/2022

To outside appearances, the summer is usually a quiet time for AAPOR. For our conference goers, the work they put into conference…from paper presenting to networking to learning from others…has wound down, and there is breathing room before thinking about what to present and research for the next conference. For Executive Council, the early June meeting is usually a busy one, setting the new year’s agenda and taking stock of the prior year. But then we typically do not meet in person again until September. Setting up meetings is hard as it always seems like at least a few people will be on vacation at any given time. Academics are mostly done with teaching commitments. The polling news cycle is often in the calm before the storm of an upcoming election cycle.

But behind the scenes, the activity never stops. AAPOR Council members have been working on new educational opportunities; starting in earnest to make the Toronto conference a memorable one; preparing for the midterm elections; executing the new agenda laid out in the June meeting; preparing the financial budget for the next full year; coordinating with new chapter Presidents to develop new relationships and activities with chapters; and continuing to build AAPOR into an organization that is vibrant and strong for decades to come. As the new AAPOR year that begins every May begins to mature, the fruits of summer labor will take shape in the fall. We are excited to communicate to you new initiatives and developments as they take shape over the next few months.
