Conference: Recap and Looking Ahead

11/18/2022

A deep-hearted thank you to our staff, committees, volunteers, speakers, and attendees for making the 76th Annual Conference a huge success! Our virtual conference featured a record number of attendees (1,283) and 88 sessions, with 35 mini-conference sessions to explore the impact of COVID on our work and 53 main conference sessions to advance our knowledge. Our untiring virtual conference chair, Kristen Olson, made a number of innovations to the program, including initiating the AAPOR Award Winner’s Keynote address, which was delivered passionately by our 2020 AAPOR Award Winner Larry Bobo and our 2021 AAPOR Award Winner Rob Santos. Virtual attendees heard from an impressive panel of pollsters in our opening plenary session on Polling the Electorate During a Pandemic, attended live and pre-recorded sessions, engaged with each other in virtual coffee breaks and new roundtable sessions, and explored the work of our generous sponsors in the virtual exhibit hall.

Believe it or not, we are already hard at work planning for our 77th Annual Conference, which is scheduled to take place in May 2022. Our eyes and hearts are set on reconvening in person in Chicago at the Sheraton Grand Hotel on the Magnificent Mile, but we are paying close attention to local public health recommendations in Chicago as well as across the country. Additional details about the 2022 conference will be rolled out this fall, and special thanks to all of you who shared your feedback and thoughts about the format of the conference for next year in the membership survey.

Regardless of the format, our 2022 conference will continue to address how COVID has impacted our work, will highlight challenges and innovations in data collection and analytics, will explore how we measure and incorporate equity and inclusion into our work, and much more.

If you have any questions or ideas about next year’s conference or want to know how you can get involved as a volunteer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at darbysteiger@westat.com.

Cheers!
