Chapter Spotlight: PANJAAPOR

11/18/2022

PANJAAPOR (the PA/NJ chapter of AAPOR) provides opportunities for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and other regional public opinion researchers to come together, exchange ideas, network, and provide professional support to new members of our community.

In 2020 and 2021, the pandemic presented several challenges for PANJAAPOR. Our organization has long had two substantive in-person events each year that are well attended. What would we do in place of those events that would still be meaningful and useful for members? How could we still engage students and new professionals in the survey research field without being able to mix and mingle at our events?

After careful consideration, PANJAAPOR’s Council decided that the best way to respond was to adopt and leverage the new opportunities that remote and virtual events can provide. To do this, we partnered with the Rutgers University Eagleton Institute of Politics to host two events:

  • Our fall virtual event was Survey Research and Diversity and Inclusion. The fall event included presentations by Neil Ruiz of Pew Research Center, Dalia Mogahed of the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU), Chance Patterson of Chance Impact, and Tamara Terry of RTI International.
  • Our spring virtual event was Survey Research in the Digital Age. Chintan Turakhia of SSRS and Mansour Fahimi of MSG presented on innovative and emerging data collection, survey design, and survey methodology approaches.

We are happy to share that both events were successful at allowing us to reach a bigger audience and include excellent speakers from across the county and our industry.

In 2021, PANJAAPOR also continued to partner with our friends from NYAAPOR. In April, we co-sponsored the Young Scholars Evening focused on a student research and presentation competition.

As we move forward, PANJAAPOR is working to build off of our success as we plan for our fall 2021 and spring 2022 events. To learn more about PANJAAPOR or our upcoming activities, please visit our website at www.panjaapor.org
