Chapter Spotlight: PANJAAPOR

11/18/2022

PANJAAPOR had a productive fall/winter and we are planning for an eventful spring 2018.

In November we held our first ever meet and greet at the Dillinger Room in New Brunswick, NJ with the goal of attracting new members. The event was a success, as we had several new faces who were eager to join and connect with current members.

In December, we held our annual winter event at Princeton University within the famous Robertson Hall.  The event featured an hour of mingling with light snacks followed by an engaging conversation discussing the use of survey data in journalism.   Our guest speakers included David Brancaccio, an award winning journalist and host of public radio’s Marketplace Morning Report, and Mary Meyn of Edison Research.  The discussion focused on what news organizations think about when reporting on public opinion and how they bring survey statistics to life.  Our presenters highlighted findings from the Marketplace-Edison Research Poll to provide real life examples.

Our spring event is annually held in March at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School of Communication.  Last spring, our plenary speaker was David Dutwin, of SSRS, discussing the future of telephone research. In 2018 we plan to bring an engaging and educational program as John Thompson,
former Census Director, will discuss challenges and opportunities with federal statistics in the 21st century.  In addition to our annual spring event, we are working on adding another networking event and possible future collaborations with other chapters.  As our events develop we will provide details to the AAPOR community.
