AAPOR 2027 Call for Abstracts Now Open
10/01/2026
The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) is now accepting abstract submissions for the 82nd Annual Conference, taking place May 12–14, 2027, in Austin, Texas. The deadline to submit is Sunday, November 15, 2026.
This year’s conference theme, Innovation with Purpose: Advancing the Science of Public Opinion Research in the Era of AI, Automation, and Scale, explores how the field can purposefully adapt to a rapidly changing technological landscape while honoring AAPOR’s longstanding commitment to promoting and defending the science of public opinion research.
Conference Tracks
AAPOR welcomes submissions across all conference tracks that apply fresh thinking to real-world research problems. Innovation can take many forms—from developing new methodologies and adapting familiar tools to meet modern challenges to finding more efficient ways to reduce costs or save time. Submissions featuring empirical findings, critical evaluations, and clear methodological value are encouraged.
For 2027, AI, machine learning, and new automated methods will be integrated across the traditional conference tracks rather than treated as a standalone track. The focus is not on examining AI for its own sake, but on understanding how these tools are being used to answer specific research questions.
Conference tracks span the breadth of public opinion and survey research, including attitudes and opinions; data collection methods and modes; data science, machine learning, neural networks, and big data; elections, politics, and media; field operations, logistics, and costs; market research; multicultural, multilingual, and multinational research; sampling and coverage; qualitative research and text analytics; questionnaire design;
Submission Formats
Researchers and practitioners can submit proposals for papers, posters, contributed panel sessions, roundtables, Skill-Ups, and Idea Groups. Individual paper presentations will be 12–15 minutes, while contributed panels bring together four participants and a moderator around a common theme. Roundtables are designed to foster conversation around professional development, current issues, and diverse experiences, while Idea Groups create space for attendees to connect around shared topics and questions.
Scientific sessions will be 75 minutes in 2027, with four speakers per session. Because space on the program is limited, authors submitting individual papers can increase the opportunity for their research to be included in the program by indicating that they are also willing to be considered for a poster presentation.
Abstracts may be no more than 500 words, and individuals may submit no more than three proposals as first author, regardless of submission format. AAPOR also encourages panel and roundtable proposals to include participants from multiple organizations to bring a diversity of perspectives to conference sessions.
Each submission will be reviewed by at least two peer reviewers, with final decisions made with the support of the Program Committee. Acceptance notifications are expected in mid-February 2027.
