Conference Support

To provide support to those who might have challenges attending the Annual Conference, AAPOR offers the following opportunities:

The Burns “Bud” Roper Fellow Award

The Roper Fellow Award provides assistance to individuals who work in any sector of survey research or public opinion research, who work in relatively isolated settings, and who are in the early stages of their careers (less than 10 years). Fellowship award recipients receive $1,000 in financial assistance to help them attend the AAPOR Annual Conference and/or participate in conference short courses.

Recipients will receive payment electronically, immediately after the conference, after providing their ACH information.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Student Volunteers

In an effort to introduce the field of public opinion research to more students, diversify the future of AAPOR membership, and provide an opportunity for students to attend while removing the financial burden of registration, AAPOR offers student volunteer opportunities at the Annual Conference.

These positions are open to current university students who plan to attend the 2026 AAPOR Annual Conference in Los Angeles. Students must be AAPOR student members or willing to become student members by the time volunteer assignments are made.

Selected students will receive complimentary registration to attend the conference in exchange for volunteering for an assigned period of time during the conference (approx. 4–6 hours of work).

Roles available:

  • Session Volunteer: Responsible for conducting room counts during sessions and reporting accurate numbers to AAPOR staff, providing support during the Speed Networking event, assisting with poster sessions, etc.
  • Communications Volunteer: Tasked with taking pictures, using social media, writing up blog blurbs for assigned sessions, etc.

AAPOR Hardship Travel Grants

Travel grants of $500 will be available to AAPOR members affected by sudden budget shifts or changes in circumstances to attend the conference. Grants will be distributed based on availability, with preference given to AAPOR members who are more than 10 years into their careers.

Travel grant funds may be used for:

  • Conference registration
  • Transportation to and from the conference
  • Accommodations while attending the conference

Recipients will receive payment electronically, immediately after the conference, after providing their ACH information.

Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, starting March 30, until funds are exhausted.
